The Japanese word sunao (素直) means “honest,” “frank,” or “straightforward” and refers to a desirable virtue of being open, trustworthy, and humble. Sunao as a Positive Virtue: In Japanese culture, being sunao is seen as a positive trait, reflecting humility and a willingness to learn and adapt by seeing things as they are, without the interference of preconceived notions.
